Role Summary

This is a flexible honorarium-based opportunity scheduled as-needed to support the community engagement and community comprehensive planning process. We anticipate that this role will work 2-5 hours per week leading up to the community engagement events, with more hours available throughout the community engagement process, and will be provided with multiple days of paid training in October. Meetings can be flexibly scheduled around other life commitments.

The Community Comprehensive Plan Champion is a member of the Esquimalt Nation Community dedicated to building consensus and discovering the shared vision for the future of the Nation. This person will be directly involved in the development of the revised community comprehensive plan, through facilitating events, surveys, and focus group engagement sessions. They will collaborate with the various departments and contractors engaged in the CCP project to ensure that the community is thoroughly represented in this process.

primary Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Plan and facilitate community engagement dinners and events for the CCP
  • Coordinate the delivery and response to surveys, questionnaires, and other informational materials
  • Facilitate engagement sessions with Elders, youth, and members of the Esquimalt Nation community through various formats including events, focus groups, meetings with families, and individual meetings

 

CCP Planning and Development

  • Collaborate with the CCP team to develop community engagement materials including surveys and questionnaires
  • Provide feedback and support the CCP team while drafting the CCP update
  • Thoroughly review and provide feedback on the proposed CCP update draft

 

Training and Professional Development

  • Attend Community Comprehensive Plan workshops and training sessions on behalf of the Nation and report back to the rest of the CCP team after the training

 

Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Training, Education, and Experience

  • Connection to the Esquimalt Nation community
  • Community Comprehensive Plan Training or willingness to attend paid training workshops
  • Knowledge of the Lekwungen Language or willingness to learn
  • Valid class 5 driver's license an asset (to attend training sessions)
  • Knowledge of Esquimalt/Indigenous people and culture
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with the community
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and resolve conflict
  • Ability to have difficult conversations and actively listen
  • Understanding, empathy and a sense of humour
  • Ability to deal sensitively with challenging communication situations and maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 programs an asset
